Thank you for a wonderful article Dr. Niman. I’ve discussed this same basic premise in pieces I’ve written for SavethePostOffice.com but you have expanded on that and captured the idea in a most magnificent way.
The postal network is infrastructure both neutral and essential. Until we understand that there will be no meaningful reform. http://www.savethepostoffice.com/post-office-worth-preserving

Mike you should state in the above editorial that you received money from postal unions to write this opinion,as you have in the past. Then readers can judge the validity of your argument.
ask KLOWN KING bush for his 1996 bill..ALL you redopelican postal workers that VOTED FOR HIM..WHERE IS THE DOUGH? IT is SPENT ON HIS SILLY WARS that our POOR BOYS have SACRIFICED FOR.. I am a VET and WOULD NOT HESITATE TO SEND MY SONS TO WAR UNLESS IT WAS FOR A REAL CAUSE.
Yeah, I thought so. A typical progressive/liberal college grad type. What a waste. I retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was working there long before the present crop of do-nothings took over. Now there are very few left who care about the mission, or have any self respect, or take pride in a job well done. Yall have trashed what was a respected organization, so good riddance.
I must disagree with your comments. At least where I work. You may be retired and deem yourself one of the only who ever cared. Don’t hurt your arm patting yourself on the back. i am a 21 year career employee, and, although there are some workers that do not seem to care, the overwhelming majority take their job very serious and do care. some may be slower than others, but, like I said, most all take pride in their jobs. Now, the slowing down of some workers is, I believe, the direct result of years of a physically taxing job. It may not need a phd, mda or even a ba, but it does take a brain and someone who cares. So, speak for yourself and only yourself, because people like you have no right to judge the thousands of workers that you have never met.
This is a corporate attempt at a takeover. Period. And I don’t get paid to say it. They’ve been trying for years. I’ve been saying it for years. I only hope they don’t get away with it. I honestly believe that our own “dear” PMG is in on the heist. He wants to bring it down. Nothing else makes sense.
It seemed that all the strengths you put down for the postal service can be done on the Internet and cheaper with less money spent in already bad ecodomy. I too disagree with your blog, respectfully so.

KLOWN
What part of the argument was he wrong about?
You should support such an allegation or not make it at all. Can you support it?
This allegation is an outright fabrication.
gmskitchen, maybe because the Unions are not what is robbing the Postal Service blind, it is Congress and their prepayment plan, the PAEA.
