Phillips Stevens Jr., PhD, retired in 2019 after forty-eight years in the Anthropology Department at SUNY, Buffalo. His fields of expertise in cultural anthropology include religion, magic and witchcraft, and cultural change. He has conducted field research in West Africa and the Caribbean and is the author of many publications in anthropology and African studies.
