When Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, we all knew the world had changed in some important ways. The Oxford Dictionary highlighted one of those ways when it named “post-truth” as international word of the year for 2016. Trump’s Administration would prefer we talk about “alternative facts,” but whatever you call it, divorcing our politics from reality is a serious issue. So how do we address this issue when a significant portion of the voting population simply doesn’t value objective truth? We can’t argue them into it with facts.
This week’s guest is Gleb Tsipursky, president and co-founder of Intentional Insights, a nonprofit that has recently launched a project aimed at helping people value truth in politics. The Rational Politics Project uses emotional appeals to help people reach rational conclusions about the best ways to align their politics with their values and goals.
