National Day of Prayer for All Americans?

(Re: Celebrate Reason! Humanist Network News, May 05, 2010.)

I totally disagree with holding a National Day of Prayer. I believe in separation of church and state, just like I believe in separation of church and province.

What if Canadian Prime Minister Harper decided that Canadians should do the same thing? There are atheists here, too. What are non-believers supposed to do?

Obviously atheists are in the minority, but why can't all religions have their own day of prayer observance–either in one's own home or at their place of worship? Why impose this prayer day on all Americans? That's not really a democracy. But then the U.S. has never really been a true democracy, all things considered.
