MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR: A New Civil Rights Movement

It’s a great time to be a secular American. The Pew Forum recently released a report on the rapidly increasing number of American “nones”—people unaffiliated with a religion. Secular organizations are gaining access to the highest decision-makers in the country, from meeting with the U.S. State Department to represent atheists being discriminated abroad to participating in the first Congressional briefing on the secular movement. And from Fox News to the Washington Post, the American Humanist Association is making headlines for our advocacy and legal work. As I said in my speech at the Carolinas Secular Humanist Conference in Charleston, South Carolina, last weekend, we’re in the midst of a new civil rights movement—the right to live free from religious coercion, and the right to question the existence of a god.

All of this would not be possible without the generous support of people like you. Become a member or make a donation to the American Humanist Association today and support our work to protect secular America and represent the values of millions of humanists, atheists and freethinkers. And don’t you want to keep reading your favorite online newsletter for free?
