I stayed at the AHA office after hours watching the live feed of the U.S. House of Representatives vote last night on the resolution that would reaffirm “In God We Trust” as the national motto and encourage its posting on public buildings. I couldn’t help but feel disheartened as the yea votes started at one, then shot up rapidly to 70, then shot up even faster to 100 until the final vote was revealed—396 to 9 in favor of passage.
If you are lucky enough to live in a district with a Representative that voted against this unnecessary and harmful bill, please send them a thank you note for standing up for the separation of church and state. You can see the AHA’s thank you letter here. And let’s keep up the fight for equality for all Americans—believers and nonbelievers alike.
