MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR: Trusting Humanists to Recommend Good TV Shows
I don’t watch many television shows (the last complete series I watched was “Frasier”!), but last night, I finished watching the first season of “House of Cards,” an original series created by Netflix starring Kevin Spacey as a corrupt Congressman (I’ll watch anything that involves politics and Washington DC). Now I’ve been recommending it to everyone I know! But it also got me thinking about how conversations among friends and family seem to always include recommendations for recent movies or television shows.
Humanists and atheists may have the stereotype of being overly-intellectual for TV, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good drama or comedy now and then. So I’m asking our faithful (or faithless?) readers of Humanist Network News: what television shows would you recommend to humanists and why? Bonus points if they include an atheist character! Write to us at hnn@americanhumanist.org and we’ll share your recommendations in an upcoming issue (we’ll tackle books and movies down the road).
