Scientific research should be conducted and shared freely from political interference. The integrity of our scientific institutions and evidence-based policy depend on it. That’s why we need to pass the Scientific Integrity Act (H.R. 1106), which would:

  • Require federal agencies that fund or oversee scientific research to establish and maintain clear scientific integrity principles;
  • Prohibit suppression and political interference of scientific findings and conclusions, and;
  • Hold scientists to high standards while guaranteeing their rights and protections under the law, among other provisions.

This bill is a direct response to the egregious misuse of power by the Trump Administration during President Trump’s first term. Now, his political appointees continue to block research and evidence-based policy time and again.

Science is the foundation of nearly all human progress – from tackling climate change and health crises to advancing technology and better understanding our world. Humanists embrace science and reason not just as tools for discovery, but as essential guides for building a more ethical, informed society.

In order for us to reach new heights, scientific research must be free from political interference, and now more than ever, Congress must act to protect the integrity of our scientific institutions and the policy that science informs. In order to protect the future of science in the United States, your elected officials need to hear from you.
