Support Public Education – Tell Senators NO on McMahon

Take just two minutes now to urge your senators to oppose Linda McMahon’s confirmation as the Secretary of Education! Young peoples’ futures depend on it.
Your senators will soon be voting on whether to confirm Linda McMahon as the next Secretary of Education – we need you to contact them now to ensure they vote NO on her confirmation.
Public education is in serious danger under a McMahon Department of Education.
McMahon is a voucher cheerleader – discrimination’s biggest fan, a privatization devotee, public school’s biggest adversary. “Fund education freedom, not government run systems,” she stated in her Senate hearing.
The Department of Education’s mission is to ensure access to equal educational opportunity for every individual, and a strong secular public education system is the foundation for how we achieve that mission.
However, in her testimony, McMahon proclaimed that under her reign, the Department of Education “will protect the rights of parents to direct the moral education of their children.” She wants to divert millions of American tax dollars to fund private religious schools. Her plans to divert federal taxpayer dollars from public schools that are required by law to serve all students–regardless of race, class, religion, or ability–to private schools that can legally discriminate will jeopardize young people’s futures and our global competitiveness for years to come.
McMahon either doesn’t understand the mission of the Department or plans to willfully ignore it. Either case makes her unfit to serve.
The Department of Education is a civil rights agency, responsible for advancing equal opportunity and protecting all students from discrimination. McMahon rejects this responsibility; she is not qualified to serve as the Secretary of Education.
Numerous leading education and civil rights organizations are opposed to McMahon’s confirmation and taking steps to educate officials and the public about her alarming promises. The American Humanist Association is proud to have also signed on to a letter from the Secular Coalition for America urging Senate leadership to oppose confirmation of McMahon.
Your senator should be committed to strengthening educational opportunities, protecting students from discrimination, and ensuring public dollars go to public schools. Tell them to vote NO on McMahon’s Confirmation as Education Secretary.
