Need Some Humanist Respite? Join Us in Chicago

In times of crisis, humanists have always stepped up. When public schools needed advocates, when reproductive rights were on the line, when civil rights hung in the balance—humanists took action. Now, as Christian Nationalists and billionaires attempt to dismantle our democracy and drag this country backward, we are coming together once again to push forward.

And we’re doing it where it all began.

In 1933, a group of radical freethinkers gathered in Chicago and wrote the original Humanist Manifesto, igniting a movement that would shape modern humanism. Ninety-two years later, we return to Chicago for AHACON25: Humanists Move America.

Mark your calendars for June 27-29, 2025, and get ready for a conference unlike any other. Can’t join us in person? No worries—you can participate virtually from anywhere in the world. But trust us, you won’t want to miss this.

What to Expect at AHACON25:

🔹 Mainstage Debates – Watch leading humanist voices challenge our assumptions, explore divergent perspectives, and help us reason our way toward truth.

🔹 The “Big Ideas” Speaker Series – Visionary thinkers who aren’t afraid to shake up the status quo will take the stage, inspiring us with bold insights and fresh perspectives.

🔹 Exclusive Salon Discussions – Engage in intimate, space-limited conversations on cutting-edge humanist topics, guided by facilitators.

🔹 Honoring Humanist Legends – Celebrate pioneers like Hemant Mehta (Humanist Media Award) and Fred Edwords (Lifetime Achievement Award)—with more honorees to be announced soon.

About Our Honorees So Far:

Hemant Mehta is a writer, speaker, and activist known for his influential blog, The Friendly Atheist. A dedicated advocate for secularism, he has contributed to numerous media outlets, including The Washington Post and CNN. Through his work, he has fostered critical conversations about atheism, skepticism, and the importance of rational thought in public discourse.

Fred Edwords has been a cornerstone of the humanist movement for decades. As the former executive director of the American Humanist Association and editor of The Humanist magazine, he has played a pivotal role in advancing humanism. Much of this movement is what it is today because of Fred’s leadership and work in education, advocacy, and public speaking.

Let’s be real– there’s a lot going on right now. Humanists have always been the architects of progress, and we will not wait for permission to keep building a better future. This is our moment to move America forward—together.

But it’s also a moment to gather with like-minded individuals and friendly faces. To share our fears, frustrations, and hopes. To mourn our losses, celebrate our victories, and recharge for the road ahead. This is your conference, and it is what you make it.

Whether you’re looking to get fired up and ready for the fight ahead, or simply seeking a friendly space to breathe, reflect, and reconnect—we’ve got you.
